A Virtual Gathering

How it Works (Hint: It’s easy!)

Futures Festival ’18 is a 12-hour virtual gathering. This year, Toronto, Ontario, Canada is the hosting locale and sessions run from 0700 to 1900 GMT-4 (EDT). Please plan to be part of the discussion by registering online and logging into the meeting room. To take part in the session, you will need Zoom, an enterprise conferencing application. If you haven’t used Zoom before, we suggest you download it before the conference. Check out this quick video: Zoom Support – How do I Join a Meeting? (less than a minute).

Because our goal is to bring people from all walks of life into the conversation, we’ve made Diverse Futures as barrier-free as possible. We are happy to say that thanks to our 100% volunteer team and presenters, there is no cost to register or use the conferencing service.

Note: You will need a reliable connection to the internet.

Q&A: Let us know if you need anything

What is a “virtual gathering?”

Futures Festival sessions are talks, panels, or interviews. Live-streaming is done via Zoom.us, an enterprise conferencing application. There is no cost to use the service or participate in live-streaming.

“I hope you will register online now and be part of the conversation.”

Prateeksha Singh, Chair, Futures Festival ’18

When is Diverse Futures?

Futures Festival ’18, Diverse Futures, kicks off on October 27 at 0700 (EDT) and runs through to 1900 (EDT). Sessions are 30 to 90 minutes, including a Q&A. Our team is mostly in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, so we’ve set times based on GMT-4 (EDT).

“Check out your time zone so you don’t miss a thing.”

Amy Hosotsuji, Organizer, Diverse Futures

How are sessions run?

A dedicated moderator manages each session and hosts the Q&A. We will monitor chat and watch for “raised hands” so we can maintain a speakers list. FYI: Sessions are also recorded and shared after the festival.

“Diverse Futures is the fourth Futures Festival. The response has been fantastic!”

Graciela Guadarrama Baena, Organizer, Diverse Futures
